Join us for a 2-day speculative mapping workshop at Temporary Stabilisations in Gothenburg!

During the workshop we will map the site of Bunkeberget in Gamlestaden by addressing the high security data centre being built inside the mountain and the history of the site, connecting the threads of the past and the future. Who makes the decisions about the places we inhabit? How can we interrogate and influence changes in the landscape? What connections can emerge through a collective mapping processes?

Bunkeberget is a historical site with roots as far back as the Old Stone Age when the hills around Gamlestaden was believed to be inhabited. During the Second World War a bunker was built inside the mountain as a bomb shelter and later it became a factory reservoir. In recent years the bunker has housed events from weddings to theme parties, a glass blowing studio, a skating park and currently, a data centre is under construction.

We invite participants to explore the conflicting interests of the landscape. Departing from Bunkeberget as a site, we will embark on speculative mapping excersises combining writing, archive images and materials from the site. Through a guided walk, conversations and exercises, we will raise questions of how to visualise the invisible – unpacking more-than-human and human underground actors. Participants will collectively create an interwoven map of their findings and visualisations, which will be exhibited in the gallery Temporary Stabilisations.  

The workshop is run by Speculative Practices, initiated by artists Gloria López Cleries & Sive Hamilton Helle, in collaboration with Temporary Stabilisations. In addition, we will have the expert perspective of invited guests who will help us approach the site from a view of the past and towards the future.

We have space for 15 people and will facilitate for both English and Swedish speaking participants. The workshop is free of charge.

This workshop is part of Speculative Practices, an artistic practice developed by Sive Hamilton Helle and Gloria López Cleries. It uses speculation as a critical and creative form to examine how language, metaphors, and narratives shape our understanding of technology, progress, and the environment. Through various activities and exercises (site visits, walking, conversations, writing etc.) participants explore the how storytelling and mapping can question dominant ideologies and imagine alternative futures through different materialities.

Combining their backgrounds in film and visual art they engage in art projects, write articles and facilitate workshops. Sive Hamilton Helle and Gloria López Cleries are both working at HDK-Valand as lecturers. Their ongoing artistic research practice interrogates the intersection between digital technology, dynamics of extractivism and language through ecological and decolonial narratives. Their work has been published and exhibited internationally, at venues such as; Luleå Konsthall, Malmö Konstmuseum, The Photographers Gallery, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Biennalsur, OFF Bratislava, ADAF, VRAL, CCCB Barcelona and many more.

Åsa Dybwad Norman (f. 1984) är textilkonstnär och lektor i textil konst vid HDK-Valand, Göteborgs universitet. Bosatt i Arvika utforskar hon hur handens och kroppens kunskap tar plats i dagens samhälle, ofta genom att undersöka historiska rum och skeenden genom arkivarbete, intervjuer och gestaltande processer.

Dybwad Normans konstnärskap präglas av ett intresse för textila materials rörelse genom tider och platser, med fokus på deras subversiva potential. Hon arbetar ofta i kollektiva former som i det pågående forskningsprojektet De viljefulla textilarbetarna. Där tittar hon och konsthantverkaren Frida Hållander på den svenska textilindustrins historiska och globala verkningar.

Dybwad Norman har ställt ut på bland annat Norrköpings konstmuseum, Art Lab Gnesta, och Eskilstuna Konstmuseum. Hon har också deltagit i konstnärliga residens vid IASPIS och Arbetarrörelsens Arkiv och Bibliotek, och hennes verk finns i samlingar hos Folkets Hus och Parker, Statens konstråd och Konstfrämjandet.

Klas Trollius arbetar ofta  tvärdisciplinärt med performanceverk som innefattar ljud, musik, text, bild och objekt. Med utgångspunkt i ett experimentellt arbete med text och musik skapas ett uppbrutet berättande där till synes disparata föremål och företeelser, såväl historiska som personligt grundade, sätts i förbindelse med varandra.

Utställningen är en del av GIBCA Extended som är både ett nätverk och ett publikt program som samlar samtidskonstscenen i hela Västra Götaland. För varje upplaga skapar enskilda konstnärer, gallerier, konsthallar och
curatoriska plattformar egna program och utställningar som fördjupar och ger nya perspektiv på biennalens tematik.

Klas Trollius often works across disciplines with performance pieces that incorporate sound, music, text, images and objects. Based on experimental work with text and music, he creates a fragmented narrative in which seemingly disparate objects and phenomena, both historical and personal, are connected with one another.

The exhibition is part of GIBCA Extended that is both a network and a public program that gathers the contemporary art scenes and venues of  Västra Götaland Region. Each edition of GIBCA Extended offers a platform for artists, curators, galleries and art spaces. Their individual programs and exhibitions consolidate and explore new perspectives on the biennal’s theme.

Har du gamla tyger eller kläder som du vill ska återbrukas i konst? Eller bitar av garn från ditt senaste projekt?

Under den 22, 23 och 24 augusti, kl 11-16 går det bra att lämna in gamla kläder, gardiner och handdukar med mera på Temporary Stabilisations. Det behöver inte vara helt, men gärna rent. Textilierna kommer sen att bli en del av ett performanceverk av textilkonstnären Åsa Dybwad Norman, som genomförs inom ramen för projektet Fältstudier som drivs av Göteborgs Konsthall, 2025. Om du inte kan komma förbi Temporary Stabilisations så går det bra att kontakta Åsa (0704852961) så kan hon komma och hämta textilierna så länge det är i Gamlestan med omnejd.
